Pre-School

The waiting has been too long. Coltin is 4 years old and did not attend Pre-School last year, because we simply could not afford it. ( I know what you are thinking, how can you put a price on your childs education?) Well, he's super smart as it is, and I am not just saying that because he is my child. I'm being totally and 100% serious. Anyway, I thought that for sure this year we would be able to afford it. Well we are still strapped for money and barely surviving as it is. Coltin is soooo ready to go to school. And I am ready for him to go. No I am not trying to get rid of him by any means, but it's so hard to entertain a 4 year old boy who is so active and smart and ready to go to school. Esp. when all his (cousins and friends the same age are in school too) We just get sooo bored. And when Conner is napping we are stuck to the house and with it being 100+ degrees outside we are confined to our little abode. He entertais himself pretty well on the computer, but only for so long.
He is on the waiting list for the Head Start Program at Keller Elementary(where I went to elementary school) and also on the waiting list for the Mesa Early Learning Program(both tuition free) They say he has a better chance of getting into the MELP than Head Start. (I mean earlier) The lady spoke with from MELP, has told me that some kids are on the waiting list for Head Start for over a year. WHAT?!!! I dont have a year, by then he will be in kindergarten. And he will not be going to Keller, thats fo sho. (He'll either be at Harris Elementary(with a boundry exception) or Franklin or Edu-Prize. (if i want him to go there I need to get him on the waiting list lottery now) Anywho, the main reason for this post. I was wondering if any of you who have children around the same age as Coltin or had children in pre-school, could let me know of any place you took your children for preschool and how many days a week, hours a day and tuition it cost. If I have to stop driving except to school, grocery store, and the dr, then i will (to save gas and use it only for those purposes) I need to get him in school NOW!!! Please help!!! He's soooo ready to go to school and I know he will do sooo well and have so much fun.
Can't anyone help me???!!!?!?!?!?!?!?

Sounds oh, too familiar!!! I wanted Hannah to get some social experience out as well, but not willing to pay $80+ a month for something I can do. Instead, for social interaction I'm puttin her in the cheap Town of Gilbert dance & sports programs next Spring & Summer.
I helped with Hannah's preschool last year & also got some ideas & stuff from a teacher friend from my old ward who is homeschooling her kids. It's really not too bad...just takes time. I do it an hour or two a day, but you could do it only 2-3 days a week if you wanted to. If you feel like you want to try something yourself let me know & I can give you all of the suggestions I have recieved...by email...caz see look I've written a novel on yours too:)

Oh, The only other suggestion I have is that the Town of Gilbert parks & Rec does do some cheap preschool type classes but the next "session" sign up insn't till February(that was my problem).
All their programs are at gilbertrecreation.com
City of Mesa might have something similar, not sure?

I had Reese on the waiting list for the preschool she goes to since she was born. I would definitely keep calling around to the programs at the elem. schools and even Gilbert High's KinderBox (or something like that). I know a couple of people in our stake do preschool out of their houses and that would still be super close to you,I'll check around for you. He would really benefit from the social, structure and academic stimulation and it would really help prep him for kinder next yr. At the same time, you can only do what you can do! When are we going to the zoo? Let me know if Wed. works for you this week.

I know what you mean about the 4 year old needing to be entertained by someone besides yourself! Andrew's in preschool, but it does cause a little strain on the finances...why does it have to be so expensive?!! Good luck finding a preschool!
